Quick report
Nothing on our (admittedly greenlight) tour suggested hazard above moderate. If we get winds and snow transport tonight or tomorrow we might see increasing danger. Also not sure what projected warm temps and periods of sun will do to new dry snow?
Snowpack
Incredible. I expected heavy snow given the warmth of the air and was surprised by its low density; does this suggest colder air aloft? Flakes melted immediately on gloves and coats and cheeks, but lay light and fluffy on all aspects. New snow seemed to bond well with older snow on SE through NE mid-elevation; shovel tilt-tests encompassing new and old snow revealed no shear planes and sluffing on moderately steep sections did not appear to favor any particular weak layer.
Probing a bit lower into the snowpack with hand shear tests, got moderate to hard shear under the melt freeze crust on SE 9200. Nothing in upper snowpack sheared in one similar test on NE 9200.
Skied Greens basin one lap (foolishly) and were reminded how much of the new snow is intercepted by thick evergreen canopy; skiing open slopes and aspen, on the other hand, was sublime.
Noted small wet sluffs on South-facing BCC road on our descent around 4pm, and regretted our return to rain near the mouth of the canyon.
