Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comment

In contrast to yesterday's pit in White Pine, the snow here was weaker with several weak layers not far removed from the snow surface. While I was unable to get test results on the facet-crust sandwich in this thin snowpack area, this poor structure is only buried 50cms deep. In contrast, yesterday in White Pine the facet-crust sandwich is buried 140cms deep making it more difficult for humans to trigger this particular weak layer. Above the facet-crust sandwich, I was able to get results on what may have been a thin rime or rain crust.

Facets photo is from between the crusts in the facet-crust sandwich.

The snow in Porter Fork was sufficiently protected from winds of the last two days and was still soft.
