Overcast until 10am, then mostly cloudy with moments of warm sun breaking through at higher elevations. Northerly winds were moderate with strong gusts up near the peak keeping the snow cold. At mid afternoon at lower elevations (snopark) decreasing wind and cloud cover combined with more intense sun was causing significant warming (34 degrees) with buildings and trees dripping.
Snowpack
The area recieved 12cm new snow overnight on top of the melt freeze crust from last weekend. At mid and upper elevations there was evidence of moderate wind effected snow with wind scoured north facing bowls and 12-60 cm deep wind drifts on south side of ridges with a "styrofoam" windslab of 2-10 cm thick. Keep an eye out for signs of wind effected snow and wind slabs!
At lower elevations new snow was becoming warm and heavy as winds decreased and clouds cleared.
Riding was lovely in the new dry pow that was protected from sun and wind on NW slopes in the trees!
