Quick report
Weather station maintenance day for Aeneas Station in the Swan Range. Thanks to Ted and Adam with the BNSF Avalanche Safety Program for helping us maintain our weather stations.
- 6 to 10 inches of settled powder from Tuesday's storm.
- New snow sits on a pencil-hard wind slab that is roughly a foot thick.
- Mid-January crust is buried 185 cm at 6500 feet. This crust is in close proximity to buried surface hoar. This weak layer was the culprit of numerous avalanches during January and early February.
