Quick report
Never considered hockey skates as part of a ski approach but given the nearly zamboni’d surface of the GTTSR right now it makes you think. Headed to Stanton today keen to enjoy the sun, find some crusts, and avoid the deadfall. The road is very slick; runners are nice to have for the dirt road and trail (we put on skis at 4300ft). Crusts and more crust, some punchable adorn the ridge up to the summit. We brought and used spikey things extensively and the upper ridge is faceted for your slogging pleasure. While the ridgetop stayed cold, the fog and high clouds eventually burned off and we had sun for the descent. Solar aspects in the bowl softened nicely and corn (or something like it) was had on our exit. No new avalanche activity to report. Skies were overcast, obscured, then sunny. Temps were below freezing up high and above that in sheltered locations when the sun arrived. No precip, and only light winds occasionally.
