Quick report
We encountered deep unconsolidated surface snow of 12+ inches, with more supportable snow underneath and no crusts in the top meter. We skinned and skied mostly S and E aspects. We did find some scoured and some wind-punchy snow on the ridgetops, but surprisingly little wind effect overall. I did kick off a small slab, maybe 8 feet wide, 4 inches deep over a rocky and exposed outcrop, so I’m still a bit leery of shallow or variable depth terrain, knowing the January junk show may be lurking nearby. It was snowing steadily most of the day, and the wind was picking up on our exit, and with lots of snow available for transport, the conditions could certainly change quickly.
