Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
Out in the North Swan Range today near Jewel Basin. We were expecting to find some isolated wind slabs based on the avalanche forecast, and we did see signs of recent wind loading in the area on NE-E aspects. Most of the terrain felt manageable, but wind-loaded pockets were definitely present. Great day out!
Avalanche
On an east-facing slope, we intentionally dropped a small cornice to test the slope. The cornice fall triggered a wind slab that cracked and propagated about 20 feet wide and ran roughly 100-200 feet downslope.
