Second snowpit on a southeast facing aspect at 8630' with a slope angle of 30°. Both snowpits showed signs of healing. The ice lens in the southeast facing snowpit was impressive and may have had seen some rain. It was clear in the middle.
I was still finding signs of the avalanche cycle most likely from December 3/4th in the Tony Grove area.
Snowpack
Faceted snow surface. On solars (south, west) the surface hoar and near-surface facets were melting quickly. On polar aspects (north, east) this layer on the surface was intact. Will be worth watching to see if it gets buried or destroyed before the next storm event. I observed no wind-loading on the ridgelines and the only place I was able to initiate dry-loose was on a steep 40° slope that was northeast facing below treeline. This was localized to that particular piece of terrain.
