Quick report

Went up to the saddle and about halfway up the south face of Penrose. We started around 6:30 and it was a clear night sky but clouded up by sunrise. Anything that melted yesterday was completely locked up even at the valley floor. We crossed a bunch of Avi debris throughout the drainage from what looked like last weekend. Starting at the second bench we did seem some wind effect with drifts on the floor of the drainage up to 3 inches thick or so. Even at the pass it wasn't ever thicker than that where we were. We also ran into quite a few spots where newer snow a couple inches deep rested on a breakable crust, from the second bench to the pass. On the south face of Penrose even at noon it wasn't starting to thaw and it seemed like the wind and clouds kept the snow cool. On our way out at 1 we didn't start getting into inch thick corn until we were almost back to the trees. It was melting much less than expected
