We found about 40cm of new snow on top of a thick crust on south aspect at 6400'. Below 6000' the new snow was very unconsolidated where it was protected from wind. Higher up, a soft wind slab created repeated whumpfing as we climbed. Dug a quick pit and got an easy release on the crust down 40cm CT5. HS 200 at 6400'. Definitely got the feeling that if the slope had been on was any steeper, it would have been pretty risky to ski.
