Quick Observation

Pin drop location is significantly off, but we ski toured west of Corbin. Much less new snow than waterton, but certainly pleasant. 15cm ski penetration, in 30cm of fairly soft powder (Fist to 4finger hard) over a mid pack of increasing density :). However , we dug near a treeline ridge top on an East (SE?) aspect. 190cm snowpack. Just one shear from 2 compression tests, but notable : a hard Sudden Collapse, down 115 on the December facets (highlighted in photo.)This thing just popped right off on one of our tests. That deep, you can imagine that if triggered it could zipper a long way through even benign terrain. We enjoyed laps on a slope of pretty even, thick snowpack, choosing to avoid the few pillowy/rocky spots. We avoided the thin, rocky south facing slopes nearby- looked like persistent slab country, and crusty under the new snow. There was one old avalanche (a big size 1) visible on a hanging ("unsupported")south aspect slope, well below treeline.
