Quick Observation

Dug 3 pits and had planar, electric results with our compression tests on the storm slab 30-40cm down. While filling in our pits we triggered a small slab about 10m across that failed on the storm slab (see in pic). Large surface hoar layers also found here. A group ahead of us triggered a bigger slab in the middle cut block on a steeper slope that partially buried one skier, who was unharmed.

Incident

The party that triggered and was caught in this were above us, we did not get a chance to chat with them. They were riding a steeper part of the middle cutblock, in a wide open area when it was triggered. There were tons of other people out here today, most who were shocked by seeing the cut block slide. Based on the forecast, we were not surprised, but it is a good reminder that familiar terrain still slides! Especially this surface hoar farm. We stayed away from the cutblocks and stuck to the road to avoid the risk
