Quick Observation

An amazing day of riding Quartz Creek with blue skies, a dusting of fresh snow, and good snowpack stability. We didn't see any recent avalanches and there was minimal wind effect all the way to ridgetops. About 20 cm of recent snow freshened up the riding, but you could still feel old tracks beneath. There were some pretty large cornices, and we saw a few chunks that had fallen off recently. We quickly went into East Quartz at the end of the day and noticed one size 2 avalanche in a steep northeast facing slide path (that appeared to be a few days old and suspect to have run on an old surface hoar layer). Based on our snowpack obs it looked like the surface hoar problem was more isolated to the East Quartz drainage and is likely becoming less reactive.
