Quick Observation

Sheltered slopes near treeline skied well with 20cm of powder on 4 fingers to 1-finger dense snow (down approx 40cm). As we transitioned into wind-affected terrain above 1900m, we found punchy, wind-pressed surface snow and probed 135cm on the ridge around 2050m. We stomped on a convex roll around 1950m and got the top 20cm of snow to crack and slide fast on the older snow (see picture). We entered Equinox by traversing across the boulder field ( there are still lots of boulders showing) and entering below the upper entrance. A few people skied the upper entrance and I didn't see any sloughing or cracking as they skied. The snow lower down was awesome and the ski out was adventurous.
