Recent Feb 4-5 storm looked to deposit around 2ft by Feb 5th AM at 8950' or so. Light on/off snow showers throughout the day, but generally clearing. Upside down snow obvious right away in pole plants on skinning in. We weren't exactly thrilled with the snow conditions and had low expectations- stayed on sub ~25 degree slopes just to get a feel for things. Our low expectations going in were justified; we decided to dig a pit after determining, as expected, that the snow required a steeper pitch to ski well, and that we had decided we would not travel, or adjacent to, anything close to 30 degrees pitch given recent loading. CTE4-6 within several of the recent storm layers, ~ECTP 14 failed at the Jan 31st thaw/freeze crust (P to K hard). Rutschblock test yielded full block, clean failure across 2m on single leg kick across same Jan 31st crust. The pit obs verified what we already new going in, and we headed back to the road.
