Point 6

I toured up to Point 6 this afternoon to take a quick look at how the snowpack was responding to the sunny weather. Snow surfaces were heating up on sunny aspects, and the top 2-3 inches of snow was moist-wet. However, light to moderate winds and cooler temperatures than the last few days were helping to keep snow surfaces from getting overly wet. I did not observe any fresh signs of instability today. There was evidence of windspread rollerballs on sunny aspects from the last few days. I suspect that on some steep sunny slopes, you could have triggered small wet loose avalanches today, but they would have been stubborn. 

Wind slabs felt unreactive, and I did not dig a pit today to look at potential persistent weak layers. I did not observe any signs of slab avalanche instability today. 

I observed small, needle-shaped surface hoar developing on shaded and wind protected slopes.
