Quick report
Have been skiing the snake consistently for the past two weeks. What we have discovered is a mess of layers from multiple upside down snow storms and rain crusts with a heavy 8-10” yesterday on top, creating instability that was especially reactive on north aspects where the sun crust didn’t form from the dry spell a few weeks ago and instead created surface hoar which is now buried. That was breaking 2ish feet deep with shooting cracks while skinning. If skiers/sluff weighs enough to make it go on that layer it would be catastrophic for anyone riding N faces. With cornices growing from winds this last cycle, a break of one could probably step down to this layer too. South facing is a small storm slab on top of the upside down storm over the weekend, and that was reactive enough to cause potentially consequential slides like intentionally triggered in Murphy bowl (SE aspect) but overall manageable and the aspect to ski for safety until N heals properly.
