Valley inversions under high pressure = excellent time to get up in the mountains. Cold and clear with temperatures in the teens at the parking lot mid/late-morning. Temperatures were in the mid-20s F for most of the day above 7,000 feet. Skies were mostly clear with abundant sunshine. Winds were light, gusting moderate out of the SW.
Snowpack
The snowpack around the Salmon River Mtn zone is fairly unremarkable. Above 7,000 feet, there is 4-7 feet of snow depending on aspect and elevation (more up higher and on north and east aspects). Shaded, north aspects have 2-4 feet of snow atop the rain crust from mid-December. We have yet to find any apparent layers of concern in this upper portion of the snowpack. With minor exception, the upper snowpack is right-side up. ECTs continue to yield non-propagating results. Surface hoar and near-surface facets have formed at the snow surface in cold, shaded spots that have not been affected by sun or wind (shaded spots where cold air has pooled below 7,500 feet).
