Quick report

Toured up to the Castle/Basin ridge. E ridgetop winds were transporting some snow, but protected areas ~100 ft below the ridge were almost free of wind effect. I dug a pit in a clearing in the trees below the W side of the ridge. Nice 30 cm of storm snow and maybe a bit of recycled pow sitting on a stable snowpack. CT27 on what looked like a melt-freeze layer, but it really took some effort to get the slab to move off this layer. Snow quality in the trees was excellent except for a few patches of crust from tree droppings. I didn't spend much time on solar aspects, but cool temps and milky cloud coverage likely limited the risk of wet loose, even by mid-afternoon.
