What a great day to observe some instabilities in our snowpack. Travel conditions below 4000' are icy - careful skiing or mid winter ski crampons will be the ticket for this next period to navigate the approaches.

Beautiful day in the mountains with mostly broken skies until 1pm then some clearing. Light snow transport observed on snow surface at 4600'.

Snowpack

AIARE I Test Pit Demo: E aspect 4600' - minor wind effect on snow surface in the area. HS: 310cm Hst: 19cm F+ snow over 1/10 Mfcr combo. CTE x 1 SC, CTMx2 SC on weak snow just below first crust layer. ECT13N x1 Hasty Pits on S aspect produced resistant planer results above the 1/10 crust. No cracking on test slopes or skin track tests. Hst 3cm at 3100' (valley bottom) to 19cm at 4600' with a drastic change from ~4000' up.
