Quick report
Excellent riding conditions but a real pain to get there. Went the newton creek route. There was snow transport on the top of the ridge but lower down the air was still and snow did not appear wind effected. Did not observe shooting cracks or any other obvious signs of instability.
Avalanche
Two swift kicks to a cornice on the top of the glades on pea gravel ridge resulted in a localized cornice break which caused a slab to release. 6-10in crown, ~50 ft wide, perhaps D1.5. Could have pushed a person into a tree. Broke at the very top of the ridge. There was active wind loading on top of the ridge but the loading did not appear to extend too far down slope. I estimate the instability was local to the top of the ridge where wind loading was active.
