Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
Solid snow cover on all aspects. Crust on solar aspects crust ~1ft down ~6k. Surface hoar on most nonsolar aspects, especially in sheltered areas. Observed crossloading from Southern winds in E-W gully under S Face of Wallaby but was thin and unreactive. Eastern aspects were scoured with pockets of snow between patches of crust. On Northern couloirs noted well bonded dry snow with sloughing when skied. Very top of Big Kangaroo W couloir was wind scoured but after 30 feet there was a windslab. Skier triggered and got caught in windslab at top of W gully of Kangaroo. Became complacent from stable conditions throughout the day and being rushed by sunset, did not evaluate snowpack at new aspect and elevation enough. Strong sign to always re-evaluate conditions through day and not rush decision making. Also have more alternative exit options. Triggered windslab at top of big kangaroo W couloir. Thin short cracking from wind loading on S side of W gully going up between Little Finger and tomb under wallabee.
