Quick Observation
Probed during a mechanical fix stop. 1640m elevation, probed 170cm average. Approx 30cm of fresh powder compared to yesterday in another riding area close by. 110cm shows a hard icy 1/4” thick crust. You can clear snow from above it and below it and it stays pretty solid. Yesterday, our group had a hell of a time with this crust when riding in Redsands. The snowpack on top of the crust (110cm to 170cm) is very consistent and packing nicely. No weak spots were found when poking down. Underneath the crust , the snowpack is dense and set up. Didn’t dig down past 95cm to verify any other weak layers.
