Quick Observation
Parked at 1500 m, tredged a 5 km skin track through virgin powder off the Okanagan Falls FSR through forest roads and cut blocks to reach mellow wooded terrain at 1750 m. Continued skinning into sparse trees to 1950m. Observed variable snowpack conditions the entire way up, primarily 20-40 cm soft powder on top of wind affected layer, with the powder layer beginning to consolidate into slab as temperatures rose above zero during the day. Skied south facing slope. Snowpack depth around 120-130 cm at the cutblock interface. Lots of windblown powder stashes in wooded areas. No signs of any activity, attempts to test snowpack integrity yielded negative results. Fresh cougar tracks at 1500 m. Ultimately it's a shame this area doesn't get more traffic, vast opportunity for treeline and tree skiing, with alpine conditions awaiting those bold to skin far enough...
