- <p>Numerous rumbling collapses today was the big red flag along with a poor snow pack structure. </p>
The snow conditions right now are quite good for this early in the season, but still need to watch out for rocks and stumps that are just slightly covered. Low angle slopes and meadows are a great place to ride without a Considerable avalanche danger.
The faceted weak snow that is now buried by the series of storms since Thanksgiving is still adjusting to the added weight. Although I was not getting real unstable test results in the snow pits I dug, the constant collapsing as I traveled around was all the info I needed to stay off and out from under steep slopes. Photo two is looking over at the north facing slopes of Gold Hill, where some areas did go through a natural avalanche cycle, but there are still slopes that might just need more of a trigger.
