Ptarmigan cirque

Went up the summer trail to the ridgeline of lookers left. Found really crusty and wind slabs, we had drum like sounds going up the ridge. The snowpack was super thin there. In the gully was deeper and better snow. Headed into the trees on the road side and found good quality snow 20cm clearly being protected.

Weather was -20 in the parking lot at 0830, at 1300 when we had finished it was -14. Clear with a bit of low cloud, coming from the south. Blocked out the sun from time to time. Calm winds for the morning too.

snow had a crust, slab anything above the trees, especially on the ridges, more sheltered areas above trees was variable too. trees on the road side had good snow anything 20-30cm of dry pow.
