Climbed Teddy Bear’s Picnic on the Headwall today, skiing in and out. There was light snow throughout the day, with patchy coverage above and below tree line. Ice was very brittle, fracturing across pillars and we knocked a ton of debris off. No significant avalanche debris observed on the way in, though several slides came down especially in the later afternoon.
Observed a sz 2 slab avalanche over the cliffs 50m to the right of the ice of Teddy Bear’s Picnic. Unknown trigger, likely due to wind loading above and storm slab formation.
Snowed S-1 with brief periods of S1 all day with overcast skies. Winds were light gusting higher at the car and on the approach; downdrafts were felt on the climb. Temperatures stayed around -5 all day.
