Today we went riding at the Onion. It seemed to have stayed cooler in the Babines over the last few days, as we saw no evidence of the recent warm temperatures in the Hankin area yesterday.
There is about 30cm of dry snow sitting on a very supportive crust in this area. The crust was hard enough to support a snowmobile, and we were not breaking through it. The 30 cm of snow on top made for decent riding quality. That being said, there is only 85 cm of snow in sheltered places. Still lots of early-season hazards and massive creek holes everywhere.
We dug a snow pit and found 85 cm of snow. In testing, we were able to get hard propagating results on a layer of facets down 45 cm from the snow surface.
Pray for snow!
