Warm snow surface due to sunny skies. Air temperature at -2.7C. Dug a snow pit. Result from compression test at 2800m before south face ascent: Sudden planar fracture at 20cm Sudden planar fracture at 50cm No facets or hoar present. We think it was sliding on a super thin freeze-thaw crust interface. Hard to identify crystals. Medium cause for concern. Bootpacking up the south face gave us confidence as we felt the different layers. Top of Rogers was wind-compacted and made for some tricky skiing. Surprisingly decent powder conditions on the lower half of Rogers south face and glacier.
