While riding the Renshaw today we saw several small cornice releases, size one avalanche on a cross loaded feature (Northerly aspect) as we traveled through open terrain noticeably more wind affected conditions. We decided to investigate a leeward feature approximately 25 degree slope dug a pit and had repeated sudden collapse results @ 27cm and 43cm on a fist to 4 finger to fist wind slab interface, did extended column test no propagation found Boot pan depth was 80cm Tested some cross loaded cornice features only results were under machine
Snow conditions were: Deep powder, Wind affected, Powder. Weather conditions were: Stormy, Windy, Cloudy, Sunny. We rode: Alpine slopes, Mellow slopes. We avoided: Steep slopes. Riding quality was amazing.
Avalache Conditions: 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifitng, or rain in the last 48 hours. Slab avalanches today or yesterday.
