Quick Observation

Upside down storm snow at balu pass, with variable wind affected surfaces in the open. In the valley below balu pass there is a surface temperature crust. The combination made for awkward skiing.

Avalanche Information

We came across a party of 4 with a single person involvement, with no injury but who had lost all his gear (skiis and poles). They were skiing somewhere above balu pass towards the 8812 peak and into the 8812 bowl, and the gentleman without gear walked down 8812 bowl. They described it as a size 1.5-2 avalanche that failed about 90cm down. We couldnt see the debris, and did not observe it occurring from our point on balu pass. We chatted with them at the base of the 8812 bowl.
