Lots of hootin and hollaring in the 5 mile basin today. Fun to hear all the powder hounds out there enjoying themselves.
32' slope in open trees at top of Burn/Fingers area just below the alpine (-6'C air temp) CTE 1 BRK down 18 in storm snow CTM 12 SP down 39 at top of crust (slid ~5cm and stopped on column) CTH 22 SP down 41 below crust (slid ~1cm and stopped on column) ECTN 15 BRK down 30 in storm snows. We aggressively ski cut two steep unsupported 20m diameter convexities close to the top of Acidophilous and did not get anything to move; however, there was some power sluffing in narrow gully-like features. We rode the basin all day and could feel a thick (2-3cm) crust below the recent storm snow, although the crust appeared to be constrained to specific terrain features (open avalanche paths of the Burn/Fingers area). Acidophilous skied quite well with no signs of the crust.
