Quick Observation

Great ski conditions with well planned and managed terrain decisions during considerable hazard and variable weather. Many visible and audible loose avalanches coming off Mount Odgen throughout the day.

Avalanche Information

One slab avalanche noted on steeper slopes, climbers left on way up to Odgen Bench. Poor visibility only allows estimates on size and dimensions; sz 2 up to 150m wide propagating into the cliffs to the south, blocky debris piled up mid path (could not get a good photo). 15-20 loose dry avalanches coming off the east rocky face of Mount Odgen through gullies and over cliffs, size 1-3 with strong powder clouds observed up to 300m from base of rockwall. Frequency varied with peak activity around 15:00hrs. See photo for example.

Weather

Snowing all day between S1-S4, overcast with localized cloud in and out, light winds picking up to moderate with elevation (NW), tree bombs evident throughout day at all elevations, PPr 1-2mm on surface.

Snowpack

Generally supportive snowpack with fresh snow on surface. Firm pencil wind slab noticed above 1900m elevation down 20-50cm on southerly aspects. On second descent at ~1530hrs, isolated storm slab development up to 10cm noticed on eastern slope TL/BTL (precip at S2-S4 for 2 hours).
