Quick Observation

East/SE aspects below 1800m were warming by noon, but north and west aspects stayed icy hard until late into the day and likely did not warm at all in the cooler temps. Despite the teeth-rattling turns, great day for technical objectives. With the springtime avalanche problem now a lot less dynamic, attention turns to managing all the other mountain hazards. Top of mind is the consequences of a fall on hard snow. Many descents in the pass that earlier in the year had clean run outs now have some exposed rocks mid and lower down on the slope, which amplify the consequences of a sliding fall.
