Quick report
Poncho crew attempted Kendall Knob today, along with a crew of 6 in a guided course and 2 stragglers that we saw near the start when we turned around. Started at 9am, rain all the way to our turnaround point (3700', 10:30am). Slow going trail breaking on the PCT, multiple creek crossings, some bridges, some skinnable, some required booting, but all not too bad. Broke through one small bridge with skis on. After the 4th boot crossing, travel conditions improved substantially. Traveling off the PCT was knee deep ski pen and awful. Bottomless snow in places with pole tests, otherwise 2-3 feet in most spots. No stability issues noted, no roller balls or small slides. Tree bombs started falling substantially around 10am, some very large nailed us, we helmeted after that. Ultimately got wet enough to call it a day, but I'm hopeful someone made the knob and found some decent snow. We decided to skin back down the PCT, skiing looked dangerous. 1 hour descent.
