Skied a few laps in the NE trees on Angora today between 12 pm and 4 pm. Snow level was at lake level when I started with up to an inch of very dense snow at the car. At 7600’, new snow amounts were 1-2” on top of a pencil to knife hard crust. At 8400’, new amounts were closer to 3-4”, and the crust was only 1F, and no longer supportable to boots when I stepped out of my skis. On the descent, the crust was noticeable at all elevations, but much more so at lower elevations. It was entirely supportable to skis everywhere. By the time I started up for lap 2 at 2 pm, the rain/snow line had crept to 7200’. The rain quickly soaked the new snow below this elevation, making for a slow, sticky exit. Winds were strong to extreme out of the SW for the whole afternoon, and I observed plenty of snow transport. I also observed evidence of wind loading and some cracking above ~8200’ on NE aspects, but this was still relatively shallow (5-6”) and didn’t propagate far.
