Quick report
Toured out to castle pass with an AIARE 1 class to look at the snowpack and investigate the layers closer to the ground. At our location 7900’ west aspect, the layer at the ground was very strong round grains (1F+). We did get surprising results in our CT test and had a moderate (13taps) sudden planar failure that slid easily 20cm down on near surface facets below a small melt freeze crust 10cm down. These facets could be an issue with a new load on our snowpack. CT 13 SP down 20cm

Snowpack
Near surface facets above and below a melt freeze crust (10cm down). Mid pack is strong and rounding. 7cm rain crust (59cm down). Layer at the ground is very strong, clustered rounds.
