Quick report

Afternoon tour on Jake’s started with sunny skies at 2pm, which turned to snow showers and gusty winds within a half hour. ~6” of new snow at the road, ~12” near the summit. After 2:30, winds were swirling and gusty below treeline. It was generally a rightsideup snowpack as forecast, with no cracking or collapsing on N/NE aspects. The colder top 6” of new snow tended to sluff harmlessly off the wetter snow from the start of yesterday’s storm. But a few hard turns on steeper pitches released D1 loose slides that entrained some of the wet snow further down, and were heavy enough to knock someone off their feet. 1-2” of new snow had accumulated on my car in the ~90 minutes I was out.
