Quick report

I hiked around the Tamarack area looking at snow cover in start zones ahead of more potential snow this weekend. Temperatures were in the 60s today and when I paused in the sun my black pants quickly got hot. Aspects other than due north had experienced a fair bit of melting. In areas of very thin snow cover receiving sun, the snow was actively melting and wetting the surrounding dirt.  I did a quick pit in an open area in the lower portion of Hourglass at 9200' and found moist melt forms. I did another quick pit on a 330° shaded slope surrouned by trees at 9200' and found 23cms of  mostly sugary facets beneath a melt freeze crust.

Weather

Quite warm. Temps were in the 60s and areas receivng suns had wet snow and wet dirt near melting snow.
