It looked like the rain event percolate down into all the layers of the snow pack. Even the bottom weak layer was wet and you could make a snowball with it. Above that was a gradually freezing crust which was supportable to skiis and then about 6 inches of new snow. Seems like we might avoid the early persistent slab on top of weak snow we had last year, at least below 8000' anyway.
