Quick report
Two things: 1. Riding today was excellent on solar aspects, if quite fast. A few roller balls were observed on SE slopes, originating at 8300', though were generally unproductive. Still cold snow out there to be found: hoar frost is either developing or preserved, observed in avalanche summary photograph @ 7100'. 2. Refer to avalanche summary.
Avalanche
*This avalanche occurred more than 3 days ago* An older (5-7 day old), very broad avalanche was observed on the North face of China Cap. Mapping software suggests 600 meters wide and ranging from 200-400 meters long. It appears that the majority of the avalanched snow originated as storm snow (visible crown between 20-30 cm in depth), though stepping down to a deeper layer was also observed, producing large blocks within the avalanche debris, and assessed to be an additional 70-100 cm in thickness. New/transported snow sits on top of the debris: 15-20 cms.
