Skied to Echo Peak Ridge with an LTCC AIARE 2 class to dig pits and observe the snow pack down to the rain crust layer. Weather was mostly sunny with light winds and temperatures of 40°F increasing to 50°F throughout the day . Surface instabilities were observed in the form of rollerballs and pinwheels on N aspects due to over night cloud cover, with zipper crust being observed later in the day as temperatures cooled. Pits on the N aspect at 7850ft revealed rain crust at 60 cm down and compression tests exhibited CT 23 resistant planar break at 15cm down. ECT results were insignificant. Unstable snow remained minimal. SE aspects retained corniness later in the afternoon and provided for superb skiing.
