Andesite Peak

We toured on Andesite Peak this morning. Last night's snow surface refreeze was of variable strength and thickness across open E aspect slopes. The most refreeze we encountered was 8 inches thick at 1F+ hardness. These areas were ski supportable up until our 11:30 am departure from the area. Other areas were less than 4 inches thick, and those areas had quickly lost ski supportability by 10 am. We often encountered areas of supportable and non-supportable snow surfaces within close proximity to one another.

Snow cover on the eastern slopes of Andesite Peak remains fairly good, but there are sun cups on all open slopes. Looking towards the SW-W aspects of Castle Peak and Basin Peak, there is much more bare ground than snow cover. There are not many sections that hold continuous snow cover top to bottom anymore on the SW-W aspects of Castle and Basin Peaks.
