Traveled into hillmans just after 3:30. Hand sheer tests were indicating a slight strong over weak layer within the new snow. Approximately 25-30!cm of new snow with a 10 cm layer of 4F on top of 20 cm of F hard snow. While traversing across the line near the top of the Christmas tree from the climbers left to the right we experienced a sudden collapse followed by shooting cracks which was triggered when nearing the rollover that puts you on top of the Christmas tree, boot penetration was knee deep.
