Quick report

Below treeline near Scott Peak on a northwest aspect at about 8,080 feet. Snow depth 260 centimeters (102 inches). Found a distinct layer of loose, sugary facets 135 centimeters (53 inches) above the ground, capped by a thin crust. Ski tracks on nearby steep slopes were present. No avalanches observed. No instability tests performed. I turned around due to the poor snowpack structure.
