MCS - near Winter Corner

Quick report

This day was mostly for an early season equipment shakeout and doing some transceiver drills. There is some pretty (potentially later scary) surface hoar in many areas. Maybe this information will help some of you Winter Corner frequenters out as more snow comes in (fingers crossed). Observation pit: 6,850 ft on a 50° (NNE-facing) slope, near Winter Corner, appx. 1200 Few clouds, no wind, 0°C, 45 cm height of snow. Surface hoar (up to 4.0 mm - but larger seen traveling to this location 0-12.5 cm: F 12.5-18 cm: F, denser than 0-12.5 18-18.5 cm: K, melt-freeze crust 18.5-36 cm: P 36-42.5 cm: 1F 42.5-45 cm: 4F CTN - could pull full column out along the ground, but not easily - unlikely fracture initiation ECTX - could pull full column out along the ground, but not easily - negative result suggesting this layer is not connected, perhaps due to melt-freeze crust at 18-18.5 cm?
