Today sure felt like winter. A brief mid-morning weather window allowed us to push to the Devil's Kitchen. We generally found 4-6 inches of new snow and plenty of wind-affected surfaces above 6000 ft. By noon, clouds socked in the upper mountain, snowfall rates increased, and strong west winds productively drifted new snow.
Instability was confined to wind loaded features above 6500 ft.Weather

The morning felt like a pleasant winter day with partly cloudy skies and cold temperatures. However, clouds started filtering in and strong west wind ramped up by 10 am. Visibility was quite poor by lunchtime.
Snowpack
At the trailhead at 5800 ft, we observed about 3-4 inches of moist new snow over wet grains. Once above 6500 ft, the new snow became noticeably drier, slightly deeper, and rested over a stout melt-freeze crust. Wind-affected snow also became more widespread.
