Exploring canyons to the west of the timberline resort boundary, found expected wind scouring on west-facing slopes, and wind loading on east facing slopes. Wind-scoured areas had little snow, with the tops of rocks still poking past the surface. On a wind-loaded test slope, quick pits and probing revealed 120-140 cm snow depths with about 20 cm of freshly-loaded snow on top of slightly-more consolidated (finger hard) wind-loaded snow. Isolated surface cracks appeared, but no collapsing or whumpfing was experienced.
