Quick report
- Collapsing
- widespread
While traveling on our skis we experienced large collapses each time we slightly changed aspect or entered a new piece of terrain. These collapses were loud and traveled far. This feedback was enough to reroute our planned tour to completely avoid avalanche terrain. We dug a hasty pit around 8900’ on a N facing slope and found a slab of wet, consolidated snow sitting on top of a layer of facets and surface hoar about 45 cm down.
Avalanche
We saw several natural avalanches that appeared to have occurred in the last few days. We observed these persistent slab avalanches mostly on N and NE facing slopes.
