- <p>Lots of cracking and collapsing. Some very loud whoopfing collapses with long propogating shooting cracks.</p>
East facing pit had more impressive results.
We got a very loud collapse digging our east facing pit and these cracks were the result. The cracks easily propagated 200+ft.
Traveled from 7600-10,300 ft, east, north and west aspects. Slope angles to 32°.
It's certainly a good time to practice good backcountry travel protocol. The dense new snow is sitting on very weak snow and anything steep enough to slide should be suspect, especially slopes that have been recently wind loaded. East and north facing being the most sensitive. High danger in this type of terrain.
Snowpack
Wet snow, especially below 9K. Creamy, dense snow made for good sliding. it was difficult to say exactley how much new snow there was but 12" of settled snow at higher elevations seemed to be what we found.
